Political Satire of TodayThis is a piece of satire from comical cartoons coming from “someecards.” There is no author to this type of picture because a variety of people have used it and published it in different websites. The picture is representing a strong use of dramatic irony to show “gun free zones.”
One thing, the picture above is basically a good example of dramatic irony on gun free zones. Of course the average law abiding citizen will follow any rules or instructions given to them. But what about a criminal. Will they follow rules of course not. To them, knowing the site is a gun free zone, that person knows no one has a gun on the premise. So that criminal is going to do everything he/she can possibly do. Another thing this picture shows us is tone. The attitude about this picture is to tell us that just because a certain area says “gun-free zone,” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a gun free zone. A smart individual can figure out that it can be even more dangerous because no one can carry a gun. And this is where the maniac can come and do damage knowing he/she won’t be stopped until law enforcement comes. Smart people will understand that allowing guns in gun free zones can tremendously reduce mass shootings. The theme about this cartoon is to tell us that it is not entirely safe at these places. It is possibly even more dangerous in these zones than it is where citizens are allowed to carry a concealed weapon. Speaking about this, basically this cartoon is intended to make us think twice about gun free zones because just because we follow them, doesn’t mean other people will. Soon, maybe society will learn and allow certain individuals to carry concealed weapons just incase a certain situation does happen. In all this cartoon is supposed to make us think about gun free zones and whether something more should be done. |
Attacking evil with satire on Bulimia
Our comic strip ultimately aims to satirize people who are insecure about their weight and believe that throwing up after they eat will make them look skinnier. The theme is “Bulimia is not the answer.” Our tone is sarcastic. Sarcasm completes the theme of our comic because it makes fun of people who throw up for the purpose of being skinnier. For example, if we are saying that it’s awesome to be bulimic and it has amazing results on your body, like being healthier and a better size then people should know that it’s a joke and we mean the complete opposite. We exaggerate the overeating in our comic by saying that people eat as much food as they want and don’t have to worry about a thing because it’ll all be gone in a minute. Also exaggerated is the expressions others give the bulimic person saying that they look so much better after throwing up. Furthermore we dramatized the irony that these people, the idea that throwing up after you just ate can make you thinner instantly. This is unexpected by most people which makes it an situational irony and we make it even more drawn to the eye that it is funny by having everyone encourage the bulimic person that they look better after disposing the food they just ate. In addition we use mock sympathy to make it look like we understand the problems people with bulimia have. However, we can see that the person looks perfectly fine to begin with the readers should know that we are being ironic. We have therefore created a comic strip that makes fun of people who believe that throwing up can make them thinner because we feel that doing this can make you sick or will not work.
