The Romantic Period (1789-1850)
There were three big ideas on The Age of Reason. The stirrings of romanticism, nature and the imagination, and the quest for truth and beauty. During the late 1700s, a new cultural outlook challenged the rule of rationalism and the values of civilization. This outlook developed into romanticism. Which placed a emphasis on feelings and imagination rather than intellect and reason. A new commercial civilization was taking shape due to industry. The effects of the industry altered the land and repelled romantics. Romantics often sought sublimity in untamed nature. Some examples are pristine woods and mountains. The romantics were attracted to distant periods and remote places. Romanticism survived due to a second generation of romantics. |
The Victorian Period (1850-1900)
Three big of ideas of the Victorian Age were optimism and the Belief in Progress, The Emergence of Realism, and the Disillusionment and Darker Visions. The British believed they had a God given duty to civilize the world. Steam power made travel affordable to millions of people. Queen Victoria was known as the mother of her people. |

The Game of Life
I used to think life was all fun and games, Almost like a never ending party. I always thought it was easy. I never knew it could get so difficult. I once questioned God, "Why are you throwing so many curveballs at me?" As soon as I asked, I heard a loud booming of thunder As if God was giving me a displeased answer. After hearing the thunder, I began thinking about my past. Everything that has happened, Has happened for a reason. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't. My past has shaped me, Made me the man I am today. So now I will continue on with my life, Prepared for every obstacle that lies ahead. |
